“To pay attention, this is our endless and proper work.”

Kathryn M. Downing, PCC, J.D.

As an executive coach and coaching supervisor Kathryn draws on the knowledge and perspectives gained from 30 years in business and Corporate America, almost 10 years of executive coaching experience and 5 years as a coaching supervisor. She comes with a joyous commitment to lifelong learning and her beliefs in the resourcefulness of her clients and the coaches she works with in supervision.

Her leadership experience in business (including as Publisher, CEO and President of the Los Angeles Times) and on the boards and as Chair of non-profit organizations has given her a real world understanding of organization and systems dynamics.

In her coaching supervision practice she works with executive coaches, with a variety of experience, to deepen their resourcefulness and resiliency, learn about themselves and explore their work. She co-creates a safe space for coaches to reflect on and about their body of work. One of her core values in this work is that deepening one’s personal understanding will enable one to deepen their professional understanding. She believes in holistically approaching supervision with a focus on the self as coach.

She is currently a doctoral student at Middlesex University, London working toward her professional doctorate (DProf) in Coaching Supervision.

She is affiliated with the Hudson Institute of Coaching:

  • Coach Supervisor, Hudson Supervision Center
  • Member of Hudson External Mentor Coach (EMC) Team
  • Member of Hudson Leadership Team

She is affiliated with the Coaching Supervision Academy as CSA Faculty UK & Asia Pacific.

Her work is informed by deep reflection and integration of the Brené Brown approach to authenticity, resiliency, wholehearted living and The Daring Way™.

When I was in coaching supervision with Kathryn Downing, I appreciated her warm touch, relational approach, probing questions and generous sharing of ideas, tools and concepts that have helped me build my own coaching bench strength and confidence.
Kathryn Downing has a deep commitment to mentoring and guiding coaches. She provides a range of approaches to discussing cases, along with offering articles and relevant resources that serve to assist our clients and our own development. Because of her depth and breadth of experiences as a leader and as a coach, she has an ability to connect in meaningful ways. Kathryn's intelligence coupled with her kindness are a special blend for a coaching supervisor. I value Kathryn’s rare combination of razor sharp intellect and empathetic wholeheartedness that she brings to the coaching (supervision)community.
