ABOUT

Kathryn M. Downing, DProf, PCC, J.D.

As an executive coach and coaching supervisor Kathryn draws on the knowledge and perspectives gained from 30 years in business and Corporate America, more than 12 years of executive coaching experience and 6 years as a coaching supervisor. She comes with a joyous commitment to lifelong learning and her beliefs in the resourcefulness of her clients and the coaches she works with in supervision.

Her leadership experience in business (including as Publisher, CEO and President of the Los Angeles Times) and on the boards of non-profit organizations has given her a real world understanding of organization and systems dynamics.

In her coaching supervision practice she works with executive coaches, with a variety of experience, to deepen their resourcefulness and resiliency, learn about themselves and explore their work. She co-creates a safe and trusted space for coaches to reflect on and about their body of work. One of her core values in this work is that deepening one’s personal understanding will enable one to deepen their professional understanding. She believes in holistically approaching supervision with a focus on the self as coach.

Her approach to supervision has emerged through her own experiences as a supervisee and as a certified supervisor. She is passionate about emergence, acceptance, creativity, curiosity, resourcefulness, and learning through reflective practices including supervision. She is a committed traveler on the journey toward mastery.

She holds a doctorate in Coaching Supervision from Middlesex University in London.

Kathryn has provided group coach supervision for me over the past two years which has been invaluable. Kathryn brings a great balance of coaching and business experience as well as deep expertise and training in coach supervision. My supervision with Kathryn has allowed me to accelerate my coaching knowledge, confidence and skills. The group sessions allow me to practice my coaching and receive feedback and observations from both Kathryn and my peer coach. This has broadened my perspective and has allowed me to hone my skills real-time. I strongly recommend Kathryn for individual and group coach supervision.”
When I was in coaching supervision with Kathryn Downing, I appreciated her warm touch, relational approach, probing questions and generous sharing of ideas, tools and concepts that have helped me build my own coaching bench strength and confidence.
Kathryn Downing has a deep commitment to mentoring and guiding coaches. She provides a range of approaches to discussing cases, along with offering articles and relevant resources that serve to assist our clients and our own development. Because of her depth and breadth of experiences as a leader and as a coach, she has an ability to connect in meaningful ways. Kathryn's intelligence coupled with her kindness are a special blend for a coaching supervisor. I value Kathryn’s rare combination of razor sharp intellect and empathetic wholeheartedness that she brings to the coaching (supervision)community.
